Message #DF157; Daily Devotional #1 - “Faith and God’s Word”
Preparing the Soil (Introduction): Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17) For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7 KJV) God doesn’t want us to live in fear. The way in which we overcome fear is by knowing the Word of God. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. (Joshua 1:8)
Planting and Watering the Seed (Growth): We will all have circumstances come about in our lives in which we will face trials. Health, finances, and relationships are the most common areas for trials to surface in our lives. You can be prepared for these trials by knowing the Word of God. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (John 14:26, KJV) However, it should be noted that we won’t be able to remember something we have never learned, and this is the reason why reading the Word of God a little every day is so important.
Harvesting the Crop (Action/Response): Trials, difficult circumstances and suffering are bound to cross our paths as we journey through life. To face these trials without fear is to rely and trust in Jesus. Satan wants us to stumble, but God wants us to trust in Him more than we trust in ourselves. With God we can overcome the trials while growing spiritually. However, it’s only by knowing the Word of God that we can have faith. For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)
