Message # DF157; Daily Devotional #6 - “Know God, No Fear”
Preparing the Soil (Introduction): Fear is based largely on either past experiences or the unknown that lies ahead. We remember difficult, maybe terribly painful, trials of the past, and we fear there could be worse things ahead. Fear limits us to what we know from our senses and gives negative energy to our imaginations. Fear can be fueled by what we know or eliminated by Whom we know.
Planting and Watering the Seed (Growth): “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9 NKJV) These words, spoken by God to Joshua as He told him to lead the children of Israel into the Promised Land, are as true for us Christ followers today as they were then. God knew the fear welling up inside all of them, and He spoke directly to that fear. We see that, as God’s people moved out in trust and obedience, God delivered them from all their fears. Look back on your own life and see how many times God has brought you through the worst of your fears. When we recognize that trials are opportunities for God to show His power, love and faithfulness to us, fear loses its stronghold over us. God wants us to know that His love cancels out fear. (1 John 4:18)
Harvesting the Crop (Action/Response): The best way to get to know God better is by spending personal, quiet time with Him each day. Set aside daily time for prayer, reading and meditating on the Word of God, and open your heart and mind to allow the Holy Spirit to help you know God better: Who He is, what He is and His plans and purpose for your life. Knowing that you serve an all loving, all knowing, all powerful God will eliminate fear from your life. Know God, no fear.
