Who Is Jesus?
Jesus is the exact representation of the Father God (Heb. 1:3). He is God, (Jn.1:1-2, Jn.20:28). He was with God the Father during creation (Gen.1:26), and is the second Person of the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Jesus is the Christ, the long awaited Messiah, prophesied throughout history as the Lamb of God who would take away the sin of the world (Jn.1:29). He left the glory of heaven to come to earth, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, (Mt. 1:20-21), born a humble birth to a virgin, (Lk.1:26-31) and lived a sinless life (Heb. 4:15).
During his ministry on earth, Jesus performed many miracles (Acts 2:22), taught in the synagogues (Mt. 4:23), and ministered to people from all walks of life, treating them with respect and kindness (Titus 3:4-7). In everything He did, He pointed people toward the salvation that is only found in Him. For salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). He taught that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life and that no man can come to the Father but through Him (Jn.14:6).
Because He is fully God, He can represent God to man, and because He was fully man, He can represent man to God, making reconciliation possible and acting as the Mediator between a holy God and sinful man (1 Tim. 2:5). This was accomplished when He was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him and by His wounds we are healed (Is. 53:4-5). Through His perfect sacrifice, He made a way for sinful man to be reconciled to God (Rom. 5:10).
Jesus was crucified on a cross in our place, died, and was buried in a borrowed tomb (Jn. 19:41-42). Three days later He rose from the dead in a bodily resurrection (Mt. 28:5) proving death had no power over Him (Acts 2::22-24), and appeared to over 500 eye witnesses (1 Cor.15:3-6). After 40 days He ascended into heaven while His disciples watched, and now is seated at the right hand of God, making intercession for His people (Rom. 8:34). Now we can come to Him by grace, through faith in what He did for us, not by works, so that no one can boast (Eph. 2:8-9).
Jesus’ death on the cross was the payment for our sin, and now justifies us before a Holy God (Rom.3:22-24), so there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Rom. 8:1) Those who have trusted and confessed Him to be their Lord and Savior and are actively following Him, will someday be reunited with Him either at the time of their death, or when He comes back for his church in the rapture (1Th.4:16-17) to spend eternity with Him in heaven. At that time, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Php.2:8-11).
Jesus is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords (Rev. 19:16), the Light of the World (Jn. 8:12), and the Maker of heaven and earth (Ps. 121:2). He is Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End (Rev.1:8, 22:13) and the Word of God (Jn. 1:1, 14). He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb. 13:8), and the Savior of the world (1Jn.4:14). He is the Great Shepherd (Heb. 13:20), the Redeemer who gave His life as a ransom for many (Mk.10:45), and the Ruler of Creation (Rev. 3:14).
Do you know Jesus as your Savior today? Are you trusting and following Him as your Lord? If not, commit your life to Him now, for He alone is worthy! Pray a prayer like this from your heart:
“Heavenly Father,
I admit that I am a sinner by breaking your laws and commandments. I recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross to forgive me of all my sins and has risen from the dead. Please forgive me of my sin and come into life. I repent of the way I have tried to live my life apart from You. Make me a new creation and help me follow after You with my whole heart. I commit my life to You today and forever. I confess Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Teach me Your ways, Lord, and give me the strength to follow after You all the days of my life.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.”
