Catastrophic Earthquake Hits Haiti

January 13, 2010: As many of you have heard and seen, Haiti has been devastated by a 7.2 earthquake. Pastor Siege and his wife with their church are located just 15km from the center of the quake. They are safe and well, however, other brothers and sisters in Christ along with many others are seriously injured.

Haiti needs our help.

January 14, 2010: Siege does have a cell phone signal, but it is not great.  He was at church last night teaching a class when the walls all began swaying back and forth.  The house where he was living with his sister is no longer livable. Seige has locked up the church because there is widespread looting.  He has picked up the kids from the orphanage, which is also not livable, and he is trying to find a place for all of them to sleep tonight.  Please keep them in your prayers.

January 15, 2010: "Thanks for your willingness to serve and for your patience.  As you have seen on TV, Haiti is a mess. We are working with many Calvary Chapels throughout the country and Samaritan's Purse to locate people who could support us with food, water, and possibly shelter once we get to Haiti - unfortunately none have been found yet. Security is also a concern. The earliest trip a group is looking at is January 25th and they have no definite support. While we wait for support, please check that your passport is current and you might ask your doctor what shots he would recommend you receive before going to Haiti (i.e. tetanus, hepatitis A - 2 shots and hepatitis B - 3 shots). The recovery operation will take many, many months. We will most likely send teams over to help - the size of each team will be determined by the support available. Again, thanks for your patience.  I will keep you informed as we learn more.  In His Service, Herb Johnson"

January 16, 2010: "Thank you all for your prayers. All the church leaders are doing ok. The kids at CCF are doing ok. The church body is doing ok, we all lost loved ones, but there is no report of anyone from our church who lost his/her life. My mom and her household are doing ok. Continue to lift up the body and the country in prayers as we don't know what is next. But, we do know that the Lord Jesus Christ is in control. Pray for organization of the help coming so it can get to all of us. I am trying to see if we can receive things from the US via MFI based in Fort Pierce. We are managing the resources: water, food, etc. the best we can and we know our Lord will provide. I love you all. God bless you, Seige "

January 18, 2010: Good news for those ready to get busy right away - and no shots required. Missionary Flights International (MFI), located in Ft. Pierce, FL, has been flying missionary support flights to Haiti for many years.  Since the earthquake, they have gone from two flights a week to up to 4 flights a day. They have been flooded with donated food, medicine and requests for transportation to Haiti by support groups. Today they had about 100 volunteers helping to sort, wrap, stage, load the aircraft, and store all the donations. This volunteer effort will continue for some time as the donations continue. If you are available to help in Ft. Pierce (about 50 minute drive from the church) please let me know (carpooling from church will help the parking at Ft. Pierce).  Food will be available in the hanger, graciously provided by the Florida Baptist Disaster Relief folks, please thank them. A couple specific skills are in need to provide relief for the MFI folks who are working very long hours: forklift operator and warehouse manager.

Talked briefly with Seige today and he requested doctors, medical supplies, and water.  As you probably know, most of our medical folks are leaving for Guatemala tomorrow (by the way Guatemala experienced a 6.0 earthquake today) but God provided 4-5 doctors who were prepared to go to Haiti Wednesday, but had not been specifically assigned to the area in Haiti.  They will take medical supplies, a water purifier, and a couple support folks. They'll be on the ground Wednesday evening to help Seige. Please continue to get/update your immunizations (by the way, the CDC recommends typhoid and rabies in addition to tetanus, hep A and B - please check with your doctor).  Keep praying.  Herb hjohnson@calvaryccm.com

We are immediately accepting all medical supply donations. Major needs include:

Gauze wraps
4 x 4 gauze
Antibiotics
IV's
Mask and Face Shields
Gloves
Trauma Kits

January 24, 2010: The pace has certainly picked up.  MFI in Ft. Pierce continues to do amazing work getting supplies to Haiti - and they do not sit on the ramp for days.  Once there, they are dispersed almost immediately.  Thanks to all of you who are serving at Ft. Pierce - many going everyday from dawn to dusk and later. We still need 8 volunteers for this Thursday.  We have augmented the staff at MFI with some very gifted people who are giving the permanent staff a much needed rest (short as it might be).  Tomorrow a convoy of trucks from the Army Reserve will truck the backlog of materials at MFI to Miami for transport to Haiti on several very large jets.  Several NASCAR teams have loaned their planes to MFI - God is very busy.  Pastor Seige is doing well.  You heard the amazing story from Pastor Mark this weekend (calvaryccm.com) on how He got water to Seige.  Yesterday Seige receive about 2000 meals plus medical supplies (thank you Roland).  Today we got the water purifier to him and there are several folks from CC in the City (Boston) there helping him - thank you.  I spoke with Seige yesterday and he said he is not ready for us to come yet.  He's setting up a tent city but the food supply is not steady enough to support teams - continue to be patient and pray, it's working!  The effort will continue at MFI, I will get the new requirements to you as soon as I receive them.  Amazed by our God,  Herb

"The poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere has been devastated by one of the strongest earthquakes to hit the Caribbean in decades. Crowded shantytowns around the capital city of Port-au-Prince have crumbled. Hospitals and other public facilities have collapsed. The 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck just before nightfall on Jan. 12, leaving millions of panicked and injured people in the dark with no where to turn for help. Samaritan's Purse dispatched a team just hours after the quake to help with water, shelter, medical care, and other emergency needs. Most of all, these people need our prayers in the difficult hours and days to come." - Franklin Graham, President of Samaritan's Purse

Thank you for your prayers and support for the people of Haiti and our missionary.
