God Blesses Us, Every One

Message #MB405; Daily Devotional #6 - “God Blesses Us, Every One”

Preparing the Soil (Introduction):  God is a good God, who wants to bless His children. Pastor Mark gave us 6 blessings we, like the people of Judah in 2 Chronicles 20, receive from God:

  • Victory, God is for us and not against us, (Romans 8:37) No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
  • Possessions; stuff, (Psalms 84:11, NLT) For the LORD God is our light and protector. He gives us grace and glory. No good thing will the LORD withhold from those who do what is right.
  • Memories of God’s goodness to us, (Psalms 103:1-4) Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits-- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,
  • Joy, (John 15:10-11) If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
  • The fear of the Lord, (Proverbs 19:23) The fear of the LORD leads to life: Then one rests content, untouched by trouble.
  • Peace and rest (emotional, physical, and spiritual). (Romans 5:1) Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Planting and Watering the Seed (Growth):  The seventh blessing we receive because Jesus paid the price and shows us the way - our sins are forgiven and we become Christ followers. As Christ followers, we need to know how to be blessed by God: 1) do WHAT He says, 2) do it HOW He says, and 3) do it WHEN He says.

Harvesting the Crop (Action/Response):  How would the outcome of 2 Chronicles 20 have changed if God wasn’t in the picture? How would your current circumstances change if God wasn’t in your life?

If you don’t think God has been blessing you, do a checkup and see if you are obeying God fully – are you doing what He says, how He said to do it, and when He said? If you aren’t following God, but want Him to bless you, then take Him at His Word, choose to follow Him, and start walking!

I am a little confused as to how you/we can suggest that through the events of 2Chronicles20 are blessings from a good God.  Many people died in the battle, slaughtered as you described.  Then the people of Judah went out and picked from the dead.  1st of all, why could God not have simply provided for the Judaic inhabitants without the need for soldiers to die?  2nd, people of this time survived on 'picking'.  Clothing, weapons, etc. were not easy to come by.  They would not see a battlefield and simply walk away.  The items left on the dead in that battlefield were items of need for survival and growth.  My main question though is this...Why are these events titled "blessings" when so many humans had to die so that items could be acquired?
Thank you, from a searching soul,
    John
