Jesus on Weekdays

Go Back

Based on “Living and Dying for What?” by Pastor Mark Balmer; 7/10-11/10,

Message # 6054; Daily Devotional #5 - “Jesus on Weekdays”

Preparing the Soil (Introduction):  Most of us spend 40 hours a week at work, Monday through Friday. We arrive home to spend much of our evenings busily doing chores, errands, preparing dinner, or a number of other important tasks.  We attend a church service during the weekend, and then it’s back to work Monday morning. Although our focus is on Jesus while we’re at church, it’s often easy during all the hustle and bustle of the week to not think much upon Christ.  There are, however, a few things I am sure of: God is with us everywhere at all times of the week (Psalm 139), God is interested in every detail of our lives (Matthew 10:30), and it was God who gave each of us the job, home, and family we have (James 1:17).

Planting and Watering the Seed (Growth): God knows how busy you are, but because God has authority over everything, He is able to do the following for you: But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33) If we make our relationship with Jesus as important throughout the week as it is on the weekends, we’ll be blessed.

Harvesting the Crop (Action/Response): By allowing Christ to be the center of our lives, we’ll receive endless benefits and blessings, some of which are that everything in life seems to fall into place, we can have a much better perspective on all the various aspects of our lives, and we’ll have a peace within our lives, (John 16:33).

Cultivating (Additional Reading):  Proverbs 2:1-6Psalm 5:3, Psalm 59:16, Psalm 88:13, Psalm 90:14

What you said is true .. I am speaking for myself and the others may have similar experience. I love weekends, especially Sundays, where the full  focus is on the Lord, joyful praises and intense worship. I felt renewed and transformed each time. Starting Mondays however, the shifting of activities and concentration take place as required by the work place, parental responsibilities, house chores, bill payments, etc. Can Jesus still be involved in all of these? Of course, definitely and absolutely. He knows every detail of our lives.

I love to think that each day is an Office Day with Jesus. We are all working under His authority. Our myriads of assigned tasks may be different, performed at different times with different capabilities and preparations. But the goal for all of us-- is the same--to work under His authority and standards. So each day, we meet with Him first thing in the morning, review our agenda with Him, have them sanctioned. We read His Word and pray.
Midday, we pause with Him, evaluate the earlier activities and proceed to the next half day.
In between these times, if there is a problem, whatever is the concern, consult Him first. What would He do in such situation? Remember His commands. Obey. We don't need to stop and say a long prayer. Just like in the Office, say "(Boss) Lord, can I have a second with you over this matter?" His Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Time to go home--next assignment. Before the day is over, review with Him how was the day? Were the objectives met? If not, which objective, and what's the next move to attain it? Did you miss an opportunity? Tell Him and He'll help you with the next one. At bedtime, commune with Him again in gratitude for helping you during the day and looking forward to be with Him again the next day. Wish I could explain it more in depth. But the bottom line is--get Him involved  in everything. "Lord, can I have a second with you on this matter?" He does answer. I know it because I've experienced it many, many times. What a day, working with Him. Never a dull moment.
    Hallelujah.  Bless you.
