I tell the things which I have seen and learned at My Father’s side [in His very presence]; and your actions also reflect what you have heard and learned from your father. (John 8:38 AMP)
Being the only Christ follower in my family is difficult. When I share my faith with my family I am quickly met with rebuttal, mocking, and ridicule. It can be very difficult, but I press on. However, I have learned that I will not “catch flies with vinegar.” I will only impact this small circle with action.
Showing grace and forgiveness when most will not or having empathy for others in horrible situations are just a few ways that I can show the love and compassion of Jesus to my family. Being kind to those who are mean and giving what I have to someone who has little, or nothing are other ways to model what Jesus would do if in the same situation.
There are times to get out our Bibles, read the Scriptures, and point out a specific verse. And then there are times to show what you know of God and His Word in order to make an impact.
As children we did what we learned. We modeled our behaviors after our parents and siblings. The same is true for us now. As Christ followers, we can model our behavior after Christ and others will learn from them. As they begin to see a difference in the way we operate, slowly we can impact our community and our world for Jesus.
