The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world and all who live in it, for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters. (Psalm 24:1) A young couple started their married life with rather naïve perceptions of their finances. The husband enjoyed lining his wallet with large sums of money in different denominations. He also was a spender. The wife, on the other hand, had a habit of running back and forth the ATM to withdraw little amounts of money at a time. there was no planning or foresight put into the trips she made. Inevitably, this couple experienced conflict over their finances. They eventually learned the hard way that all their money and resources belonged to God. Every good and perfect gift comes from Him (James 1:17).
As Christ followers, our lives are truly not our own. Having been adopted into the family God Almighty, all that we are or own belongs to Him. That means our money, resources, relationships, our time; everything should reflect lives set apart for God’s glory. Money should always be regarded as a ‘servant’, a gift and very useful instrument of God, put in our hands to advance His Kingdom. Money and resources are temporal things that can be sown into lives, yielding fruit of eternal value. Yes, money might be the number one competitor of our hearts with God, but God is the Master- not money!
God has invested treasures of eternal value in the lives of Christ followers. Having received so much, we in turn should invest our time, talents and resources in the lives of other people, as God’s love flow through us. Examine your heart today. Aare you investing or wasting the treasures God has given you? Do you have a margin of flexibility in your lifestyle for the Holy Spirit and the things of God? Whenever we hear the voice of the Master softly calling, may our cheerful response be: “Here I am dear Lord, send me.” Thank God, the Giver of all things, Who freely gives us all that we have. Pray that He will open our eyes daily to see and understand His eternal purposes as we walk with Him. Amen!
