Don't Let Yesterday Mess Up Tomorrow

But we will [continue to] devote ourselves [steadfastly] to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” (Acts 6:4 AMP)

Each morning my husband and I have time with the Lord in prayer and devotion. We pray and devote each day to God and ask that we honor Him in all that we do. So, how do we do? Well, that is a loaded question and really depends on our hearts and our attitudes.

See, it is easy to say that we are going to do better today than we did yesterday, and it is easy to pray that we do this. However, it takes purposeful action to follow through. It takes self-control to speak kindly and not gossip. It takes asking for wisdom before acting on impulse. It takes restraint to pray and seek the Lord before pursuing our own desires.

When we speak without considering what words are being spoken, when we act and not listen, when we go after what we want and not ask for God’s favor, we take the chance of missing an opportunity for God to show us how He wants us to respond or do what He would have us do.

I know that I fall short each day. I know that I have done things that God dislikes. I know that I have been outside of the will of God. I know that I have lived life apart from God, and it never works out.

Thankfully, we serve a God that loves us. A God Who is merciful. A God that gives us a tomorrow to get right what we messed up yesterday. Praise God!
