Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lords great love we are not consumed, because His compassions never fail. They are new every morning: great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:21-23)
Two young girls were each given a box to put all their belongings for shipping. Their family was moving from one country to another and it was time to pack. The girls had so much stuff it was had to decide on what to pack. There were gifts and a lot of other items the girls kept as memoirs. Like these two young girls, every day gives us the opportunity to choose. There are always different options. Having the right priorities helps us choose life! Life originates from God. The most important choice ever is giving one’s life to Christ and making Him Lord and Savior. God gives His children the Grace to live victoriously every day; this is manifested in our choices and the way we relate to others.
Elijah, the prophet of God also asked the Israelites to make the most important decision of their life and turn their hearts back to God. He asked them to choose between the Most High God and the idol –Baal (1 Kings 18:21). The people had been back and forth and Elijah was giving the people a chance to make a choice to get things right. He challenged the people and there was a contest (1 Kings 18:24). When called upon, the God that answered by fire was to be declared the true God. Interestingly, the people and prophets of Baal were given the best chance to win this contest (1 Kings 18:25) but the results were very predictable. They failed woefully (1 Kings 18:29). Elijah gathered the people together and called on the Lord as He sacrificed as was the customs at that time.
Having chosen life with God and to be Christ followers, God equips us with wisdom and all we need to make the right choices every day. Life centered on God means priorities will always be in the right order and have eternal perspectives. Examine your life today; what takes top priority? Are your time, talents and resources used in God honoring ways? We can trust God to perfect our ways and make our lives bring Him honor every day!
