Yes Lord!

If someone had told me ten years ago that I would be serving the Lord in a foreign country, I would have thought they were crazy. When the Lord first began speaking to me about going to Panama, I had many Moses-like excuses about why I couldn’t serve in a foreign country like “I can’t speak the language; maybe the people don’t like Americans; most importantly, my husband would never agree to leave the United States.” Finally, I said to the Lord, “If my husband agrees to go, then I’ll go.” One day while my husband was at work, I worked up the courage to ask if he would like to move to Panama. I was sure he would say no, but he immediately responded with, “Yes!” He didn’t say he’d think about it or say why in the world do you want to go there. He said yes!

When the Lord calls us to step out in faith and do His will, our answer should be ‘Yes Lord.’ Too often, we forget that we have the Lord with us, and nothing is impossible for God. Not everyone is called to go to a foreign country. Maybe the Lord is speaking to you about inviting someone to church or sharing your testimony and you are afraid of rejection. Remember, faith and fear cannot co-exist. When we operate in fear our faith is not active and when we operate in faith our fear is not active. Fear can interfere with our faith and prevent us from being obedient to God. “…for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:6-7 ESV)

God likes to stretch us and use us beyond our natural capabilities. When He calls us, He also equips us. The things I worried about really have not hindered us in any way. What is God calling you to do? Perhaps He is asking you to step out in faith, but you aren’t confident in your own abilities. Maybe He is asking you to consider a short-term mission trip, or just to speak to that neighbor or friend who doesn’t know Jesus. Whatever it is rest assured that God is with you and as long as it’s in His will, He will help accomplish His purpose.
