As Christians, what are we to be doing as we anticipate the coming of Jesus Christ? Are we to be complacent in our salvation and just have our bags packed, or should we be doing something else? In Part 2 of this 3-part series we will learn what it means to “Ready Ourselves” for the return of Jesus Christ.
Mark 13:32-33 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.
· The Gospel of Jesus Christ assures and promises us Heaven
Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
John 5:24 Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.
Revelations 3:20-21 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.
John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
· You will KNOW my disciples by their fruit John 15:8
· You will KNOW my disciples by their love John 13:35
· You will KNOW my disciples if they abide in my word. John 8:31
2 Peter 3:10-11 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, (Here’s the question?) what kind of people ought you to be?
· ? What kind of Christian am I going to be?
· ? If Jesus should come tomorrow, how am I personally preparing myself?
· ? Am I actively living like a last day Christian?
· The purpose of this letter was to encourage his readers 3 ways
· #1. To have a proper appreciation for prophecy
· #2. To live holy and godly lives while awaiting Christ’s coming
· #3. To grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord.
2 Peter 3:11-13 You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
Isaiah 65:17 “See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.
Revelations 21:1 “Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.”
2 Peter 33:14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-10 Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, 2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. 5 You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.

1 Thessalonians 5:11-24 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. 13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. 14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil. 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
Revelation 22:20-21 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.
