Matthew 3:11 "I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He (Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
- Fire = the Holy Spirit (HS) enables and energizes us to do the will of God

Zechariah 4:6 So he said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord Almighty.
- We can quench the Holy Spirit by ignoring the Holy Spirit’s wisdom
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
- We can quench the Holy Spirit by refusing to worship God through Christian music (especially in church)
Ephesians 5:18-19 (NLT) Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.
- We can quench the HS by saying NO – the sin of disobedience
Ezekiel 36:27 (NLT) And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.

Romans 12:17-19 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.
Proverbs 4:23-27 (NLT) Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. 24 Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. 25 Look straight ahead and fix your eyes on what lies before you. 26 Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. 27 Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- Sanctification is the process whereby a person is set apart to be used by God
- The spirit is that part that relates to God. It is the REAL me that will live forever.
- The soul is my mind, will and emotions – my desires
- The body is my flesh, the temporary tent - the 5 senses and motor responses.
