Speeding Up Miracles

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Matthew 7:7-8
Have you wondered if you could speed up the timing of a miracle? It's hard to say, but we do see three examples of an "earlier" miracle in Scripture:
1) Jesus turns water into wine – John 2:3-11
When Jesus’ mother told Him the wine had run out at a wedding, He initially told her it wasn’t yet His time to perform such a miracle. But Mary prepared the servants for a miracle anyway, telling them to do whatever Jesus said. Jesus proceeded to perform the miracle – ahead of the designated time – and the wedding ceremony continued as planned.
Despite Jesus' initial refusal, Mary believed that Jesus was able perform miracles. She took a step of faith and told the staff to get prepared. She had faith, but she also trusted her knowledge of Jesus’ character – specifically, His grace, compassion, and mercy.
2) Jesus casts out a demon from a Gentile woman's daughter – Mark 7:25-30
Jesus was approached by a Gentile woman who asked Jesus to deliver her daughter from demons. Jesus initially told her “No” -telling her He was only sent to the Jews, not Gentiles. The woman countered His response by telling Him: “Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” Mark 7:28
Her reply impressed Him, so Jesus provided the miracle she requested. The woman's faith and bold persistence are what won Jesus over. It was ahead of His appointed schedule, but once again, it demonstrated Jesus' grace, compassion, and mercy for the needy.
3) Jesus heals a centurion’s servant from a distance – Matthew 8:5-13
When a centurion asked Jesus to heal his servant, Jesus asked the man: “Shall I come and heal him?” (Matthew 8:7).
This sounds like Jesus was willing to travel, but the centurion didn't believe He needed to. Instead, he had enough faith to ask Jesus for a "long-distance" healing. The centurion demonstrated extraordinary faith, which Jesus later acknowledged. Jesus was so impressed, He performed the miracle instantly, and He did it from a great distance.
Takeaways:
- Have faith and believe. Your strong faith may unlock a miracle!
- Be confident in God’s character – specifically His grace, compassion, and mercy.
- Be bold, and continually ask God for a miracle, even when it seems to be an unanswered prayer.
Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” Matthew 9:22
