Time of Your Life

Show me, LORD, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. Psalm 39:4

When you think about the many resources God has given you, how much importance do you place on your time? Time is an overlooked resource that we often take for granted. But time is one of the most valuable resources God has given us! We see the importance God places on the wise use of the time He gives us by how often scripture mentions it. For example, we're instructed to use our time wisely in this verse from Psalms: Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12

The Bible also reminds us to seek and ask for God's wisdom as we speak to Him. Use your time wisely by making it a priority to spend some time in prayer each day. Prayer is our lifeline to God, and it's the best way to receive the wisdom He has for us. But if any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He is generous to everyone and will give you wisdom without criticizing you. James 1:5

Have you ever considered that prayer could be your greatest time saver? Often, we rush into our busy day without taking the time to pray and ask for God’s direction. But how often do we end up coming to Him later, desperately seeking His wisdom that would have saved us from making countless mistakes and wasting our time? I remember a time when a former neighbor of ours started installing a new garage door opener without taking one look at the directions. A couple of frustrating hours later, when he finally pulled out the instructions he laughed aloud at the first sentence: “When all else fails, read the directions!”

When we fail to start our day by seeking God's direction, we end up as frustrated as my neighbor was. Taking time to pray each morning will save us valuable time, and it's time we really cannot afford to waste! Nothing on earth can match God's wisdom, and any effort we put forth apart from His wisdom is wasted time! Think about how much time you've wasted in the past by going off in your own direction without asking God for wisdom and guidance. Then, think how much valuable time you'll start saving by asking Him for wisdom each morning!

If prayer hasn't been your priority, ask God to help you get started right now! As you pray, ask God to speak His wisdom to you, and you'll have the time of your life!
