Becoming Love

“For those God foreknew He also predestined to conform to the image of His Son...” Romans 8:29

When my daughter was still young enough to stay home with me, we’d often play the “I Love You” game. She would start out, “I love you more than all the stars in the sky!” Then came my turn, “I love you more than all the leaves on the trees!” She’d continue, “I love you more than all the fish in the sea!” But imagine loving all, but in God's capacity. The word capacity in Greek is translated as ability, power, or qualification. God wants us to experience the breadth, length, depth, and height of all His love. The more we are filled with all of God's love, the more we will become Christlike in our love.

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 1 John 4:7-8 (NLT)

Clearly, God is love, and scripture says we are created in His image. Developing the capacity to love as God loves begins at salvation when the Holy Spirit is poured into our hearts (Romans 5:5). God’s Holy Spirit enables us to love as God loves, and only He can develop and display it as we yield to Him. Father God has equipped with all His love so we can pour it out on others. God wants us to love Him, with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind, and all our strength (Mark 12:30-31). We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:19

God wants us to become more like Christ, and being like Christ is our eternal predestined purpose. Exhibiting God's toward others is an outward manifestation of a life transformed by God's love. The Holy Spirit is our guide, our helper, and He is the one who helps us see clearly; So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. 2 Corinthians 3:18

Be encouraged, if someone says they see God’s love in you, it means you are becoming more like Jesus!
