Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is Yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; You are exalted as head over all. I Chronicles 29:11
Have you ever thought about those words from 1st Chronicles that describe God's greatness, power, glory, and majesty? Human power is usually associated with feats of strength, but God's power surpasses anything in our universe. After all, the power required to create the universe is unimaginable to human minds. In Isaiah 40, God's unimaginable power is described.
Who else has held the oceans in his hand? Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers? Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale? Isaiah 40:12 (NLT)
Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing. Isaiah 40:26 (NLT)
Majesty and splendor bring to mind a king wearing a regal robe, sitting on a royal throne. Echoing that idea, Isaiah 6 says God sits on a heavenly throne surrounded by angels. His majestic robe fills the room, and everyone there is praising and worshipping Him.
...I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” Isaiah 6:1-3
Jesus magnified His Father's glory by giving Him credit for everything He did on earth. We magnify God's glory by pointing people to Christ. Sharing God's love with others is a tangible way of pointing them towards His glory. Look closely, and you'll see God's glory in the small details of your life… when you give someone hug, a smile, or an encouraging card you write. Or maybe it's that phone call you made or an act of kindness. God has put you right where you are for a reason, it's for His higher purposes! The family you have, the marriage you're in, the friends you have are all orchestrated by God! He placed you there to let His splendor be seen, to shine the light of His glory to others through you.
...let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
