Until We Meet Again!

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Have you ever had to say goodbye to someone you loved after a vacation? Going to the airport or train station can be somber. Tightly hugging that person goodbye for the last time and watching them walk away can even trigger a bit of melancholy. We know we'll see them again, but as they leave, feelings of loneliness can still pierce our heart.

We've all experienced the death of a loved one. And if we're honest, it's usually painful! Even Christ followers grieve and morn when someone close to us passes away. Those overwhelming feelings of sadness and loneliness are almost inevitable... But believers have the blessed assurance of knowing we'll see our loved ones again if they had a personal relationship with Jesus.

In His Word, God promises we WILL see those fellow believers again! We can't call our loved ones or see what they are doing in heaven, but we KNOW they are with Jesus and filled with God's indescribable joy. In the meantime, be comforted by knowing you'll see them again.

Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 1 Thessalonians 4:13

As for us, we do have hope, and His name is Jesus!

Grief is normal, but it's a process we must work through. We can't compare ourselves to others either because everyone mourns differently. That's why there aren't any specific guidelines on how long mourning should last. Grief and mourning can be a painful, but it's important to remember we can get through it with God's help.

If you are feeling alone and troubled, hang on to Jesus. He promised to never leave you! If your heart seems to be bursting with sadness, remember that Jesus wept for Lazarus.... That means He understands our grief! We can take our grief to the Lord anytime, because our Heavenly Father never tires of hearing from us.

“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 1 Corinthians 15:55

If you are mourning the loss of a loved one, that goodbye you said to them wasn't finite. Try to view it like this: You didn't really tell them goodbye, you only said “until we meet again.”
