Be Holy

But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy." 1 Peter 1:15-16 (NLT)
Our human tendencies and our sinful nature tempt us to gratify the desires of our flesh. But neither of them will align us with our Holy God. But the scriptures tell us the moment we started following Christ, we became a "new creation."
Following Jesus frees us from anything holding us back, and everything that keeps us from being in close fellowship with our Heavenly Father. 1 Peter 1 is reminding us that God calls us be Holy because He is Holy!
1 Corinthians 6:19 says our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. It's safe to say that most people don't have filthy or disgusting things in their homes. Instead, we protect our homes and keep them clean. We also prevent anything from entering that would have a negative influence on our household. As God's people, shouldn't we protect our bodies the same way? So, are you taking care of your body like you would God's temple? If you're not, the Holy Spirit will help you "clean up" God's house! Call on the Lord... He is ready to help, and His grace will sustain you!
God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.” 2 Timothy 2:19 (NLT)
Sexual immorality and unrighteousness have no place in God's Kingdom (1 Corinthians 6:9). God's Word says His children must abstain from even the appearance of evil. If Jesus is your Lord, He has set you apart and called you to be His own. He has also transformed you into a useful vessel, one suitable for expanding His kingdom. All Christ followers must ask themselves this important question: Are we walking worthy of the Lord in our thoughts, words and deeds?
I like to remind myself I am God's temple by praying and singing the lyrics to this Hymn. It was written back in 1982 by Randy Scruggs and J. W. Thompson.
Lord prepare me
To be a sanctuary
Pure and holy
Tried and true
And with thanksgiving
I'll be a living
Sanctuary, oh for You
Christ Follower, take those words from God in our opening verse to heart (1 Peter 1:16),"be holy because I am holy."
