Born Again

“Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” John 3:3

When Jesus told Nicodemus he needed to be born again, he had a hard time understanding what Jesus meant. Being "born again” is a basic tenet of our Christian faith. It's a vital spiritual transformation that enables us to enter God's kingdom. Like Nicodemus, we may not completely understand it, but at our moment of salvation we obtained it. Being born again isn't something we earn or create. Being born again isn't even natural, it's a supernatural work of the Holy Spirit.

When a new baby is born, it's traditional for family members, friends, and neighbors to have a celebration and bring gifts. God's Word tells us heaven rejoices every time someone is born again spiritually. Before we were conceived, God intimately knew us. He also knew what we would want, need, like, and eventually do. To celebrate our birth, God showered each of us with spiritual gifts. Even better, the gifts God brings far outweigh the gifts given at earthly baby showers! Your Heavenly Father has picked out special gifts for you. They all have your name on them, and they are only meant to be used by you. Our gifts from God are all we need to successfully navigate life, and they completely fulfill our spiritual, physical, and emotional needs.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17

The moment we were born again, we were incorporated into an extremely large family, God's family. Stay close to Him and you'll never lack anything. Whatever your needs are right now, or whatever your needs will be in the future–God has it all under His control. But maybe He's waiting for us to ask Him for some of those gifts, especially the spiritual ones. Christ follower, are you 100% sure you're using all the gifts God gave you at your heavenly "baby shower", the ones He gave you the moment you were born again?

If you're not sure, pray. Ask God to give you every gift He picked out for you. Then, ask The Holy Spirit to reveal them to you. If you need more help, consider signing up for a class at CCM called S.H.A.P.E. It's a great way to find out what your spiritual gifts are!
