Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ear will hear a voice behind you saying, " this is the way walk in it. Isaiah 30:21
Making choices can be daunting, especially when they are life defining. The day we asked Jesus to be our savior changed us forever! Choosing to follow Jesus secures our salvation, but it includes other, additional benefits. Submitting to God's authority helps us make godly decisions and "do life right", even during challenging and difficult times. There is a clear divide between right and wrong, and the Holy Spirit will always guide us toward godly decisions!
"But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
Israel faced many challenges as they journeyed toward the promised land. When life got challenging, some of them started doubting God. The enemy knows we are vulnerable in our hardships, and he loves to attack us when we're feeling weak. Joshua assembled everyone to remind them about God's faithfulness and ever-present help to overcome obstacles. In verse 15, he challenged the people to choose God over self-reliance. Because of hardship, Israel started considering other options, hopelessly looking for help in all the wrong places. This prompted Joshua to ask them to choose who they would serve. All of us face the same exact choice. When life gets hard, will we choose to stay focused on God? Will we serve and trust Him when we can't see or don't understand what He's doing? Or will choose to be self-reliant, and try to fix our problems without God's help?
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other." Matthew 6:24
God gives us choices, but His grace is not to be taken lightly. In other words, God's grace doesn't allow us to indulge in things that don't please our Heavenly Father. We must filter everything we do through God’s Word; It is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. (Psalm 119:105). It contains everything we need to "do life right" and live a life that is pleasing to God. Choose God! Then make your choice evident to others in your thoughts, words, and deeds.
Follow Jesus wholeheartedly and ask the Holy Spirit to direct your steps. When you do, God will use you to reflect His grace everywhere you go!
