Worth the Wait

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1

On many occasions this verse has encouraged me to approach God with my most difficult problems. Some of those times I had little hope things would work out. But I was pleasantly surprised and amazed by God's answers. Honestly, getting from point A (prayer), to point B (God’s answer), isn't always easy... Sometimes the wait seems interminable, and the obstacles seem overwhelming.

Over the years, God has helped me realize that the “wait” is usually part of the answer. While I was waiting for God to do something for me, He was actually working out something in me. As I reflect on the past, I wonder if my attitude was part of the delay... I even wonder if my attitude may have caused me to miss some of God's answers when they came.

Scripture is our best source of comfort, strength, and encouragement as we wait:

  1. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; Psalm 46:10
  2. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; Psalm 37:7
  3. We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. Psalm 33:20
  4. I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. Psalm 130:5
  5. But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. Micah 7:7

Christ followers must realize that waiting is a vital part of God's process. Times of waiting reinforce our faith and improve our dependence on God. When we trust God in the waiting, we trust He is working out the very best for us. But this is not a passive mentality, it takes an active, intentional mindset to wait with faith. Waiting means submitting. Peacefully waiting is acknowledging that God's plans and purposes are higher than we can imagine. Have faith and ask God to help you wait on Him patiently. Trust His faithfulness and trust He is working on the best possible outcome!

Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! Isaiah 30:18

Please read this verse from Isaiah again slowly. These are not empty words; they are God's promise: He is promising to bless your time of waiting! Don't be impatient, take Him at His word; He will always make our wait worth it!
