God's Presence

When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, "Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was unaware of it." Genesis 28:16

Sometimes, life can be hard. When it is, we may have more questions than answers... In those moments, it can be difficult to let go of our worries and rest in God's peace. A heavy heart can blind us to God's presence, but this truth always prevails: The Lord is always "in this place..." in your place... in this very moment.

Here are two common questions we may struggle with in our trials: How do I pray? What should I be praying about? We can get started by focusing on God's promises, attributes, and character. If you don't know what to say, God has provided us with all the help we need in His Word. Below is a sample prayer that was taken from assorted scriptures. A prayer like this declares biblical truth over us and whatever situation we are facing.

"Good morning, Heavenly Father. You and you alone are my shelter and strength; You are my divine covering, and a very present help in my time of need. The help I need can only come from you Lord, the creator of heaven and earth (Psalm 121:2). Today I choose not to fear, even though I'm surrounded by turmoil and chaos. When I am weak, you are strong. Lord, help me to remember your grace is sufficient for me now and forevermore (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Lord, you are my rescuer and my restorer. You reside in my heart, and you've promised to never leave or forsake me (Deuteronomy 31:6). I am yours, and you are mine (Song of Solomon 2:16). You are the great I AM, which means you are all-powerful and unstoppable. You have no rival, and your majesty is unmeasurable. Lord, fight my battles for me and equip me to withstand the enemy's attacks.

God, help me to not be anxious or stressed out. You are my Heavenly Father, and everything I have comes from you (James 1:17). Your generosity is overwhelming, and you are so good and kind. Father, work in me to make me like Jesus, and work through me to expand your kingdom. I will exalt your name, and I will honor you with my words and actions. In the powerful name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

When we turn our focus off ourselves and redirect it towards our our Heavenly Father, everything shifts. When God is our priority, as that old Hymn goes; "it is well with our soul." Why? Because we have aligned ourselves with God's promises and His attributes!
