God's Blessing

“The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26 (ESV)

The Lord told Moses and Aaron to speak these words over His people as a blessing. It was originally meant for Israel, but now it's for all of us, and it's a great blessing we can speak over each other today!

Its words are powerful, and the word "you” is mentioned several times. Perhaps God worded it that way on purpose, so that each person who hears it will make it their own. Initially, Moses prayed this blessing over God's people on their way to the promised land. But if you think about it, we are on a journey to the promised Land too, it's a place we call HEAVEN!

Anytime you hear this blessing, lean into it and consider the richness of its words. And we don't even really need to hear it read... When we read those verses to ourselves, it reveals God's love, His intentions, and His desire to continually bless us. This blessing looks backward and forward. It reminds us of God’s covenant promises, and it also points us toward an eternity spent with Him!

This blessing promises:

  1. Divine protection: Our Heavenly Father promises to "keep us" safe and secure when we draw close to Him.
  2. Grace: When God’s face shines upon us, His radiance illuminates our lives and fills us with His grace and mercy.
  3. Peace: When life gets complicated and difficult, God promises to give us His peace, and His peace will surpass our understanding.

God ends the blessing by placing His name on His people. This signifies that He is marking us out as belonging to Him. God's name (Yahweh) is special, and it is a testimony of His faithfulness, mercy, and sovereignty over creation. This Blessing is an amazing promise, and it should leave us in a state of wonder, love, and awe. Praise God that He would consider us worthy to be marked with His Holy name.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Ephesians 1:3 (NLT)

God spoke this blessing to Moses, but He commanded it to be spoken over His people forever (over us). God is still blessing us today, and this verse from Ephesians tells us why. It's because we were "united with Christ" when we surrendered our hearts to Jesus.

Let's pause and spend a few moments thanking God for His blessings!
