Stay in the Moment

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us." Hebrews 12:1 (NLT)

Lately, I've been wrestling to stay focused both at home and at work. My lack of focus concerned me to the extent that I began to question my mental health. I was forgetting important tasks; I was missing appointments – it all seemed to just keep piling up. My job is working in senior care, and I help those who are struggling with dementia, so the thought crossed my mind that I should undergo testing for it myself. But this struggle wasn't just affecting my professional and personal life; it was distracting me from what God was calling me to do. So, I turned to God for help and sought the prayers of my home group.

I can genuinely say, God helped me realign my thoughts with what truly matters to Him. Amidst the overwhelming flood of responsibilities and information, my wise husband offered a simple yet profound piece of advice – Stay in the Moment. I even made myself a sign for my desk that says, "Stay in the Moment" so I will work on what the Lord has tasked me with. I've learned to delegate tasks whenever possible, I prioritize time-sensitive matters, and most importantly, I make room for what God wants me to address by identifying and eliminating timewasters. It took time, but God relieved my feelings of being overwhelmed, and He is continually sharpening my focus. Paul echoes this sentiment in Hebrews 12 as he urges us to shed distractions and focus on advancing the kingdom of God. Despite Satan's constant efforts to derail us, we have Christ within us – He is our source of strength, comfort, and wisdom. Jesus is the one we turn to in our times of need, but we can also lean on our church family for encouragement, counsel, and prayer.

"Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, seeking mercy and grace to aid us in our times of need." Hebrews 4:16

I pray that you will also ‘Stay in the Moment,’ by focusing on God’s will for your life. Remember, His Word says He is always ready and willing to assist us, and that Christ is continually shaping us into His image. Christ follower, allow God to chip away, grind, and buff your rough spots as He makes you into a vessel of honor for kingdom use!
