Don't Fear

Say to those with fearful hearts, "Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.” Isaiah 35:4 (NLT)

Do not fear is a recurring statement throughout scripture, and it's an essential part of being a Christ follower. God knows His children well, so He knew would need constant reminders to not be afraid. But most of those verses also say if we'll completely trust God, He will fight our battles for us.

Most of us have been fearful more times than we would like to admit. But when we're afraid, we're right where Satan wants us! Why? He knows we aren't a threat to him if we're cowering in fear. The truth is, our enemy is afraid of what God is transforming us into, the image of Jesus Christ. The more Christ-like we become, the less power fear will have over us.

He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross. Colossians 2:14-15 (NLT)

We must remember, no matter what the enemy says or does, he was defeated by Jesus on the cross. That verse from Colossians says Christ’s resurrection disarmed Satan. Christ follower, Jesus' victory gave you victory over sin, death, and fear too! The moment we surrendered our lives to Jesus; the Holy Spirit began living inside us. Because He dwells within us, we can be courageous instead of fearful.

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7 (NIV)

When we overcome our fears, we are showing ourselves faithful to God's promises. Are you struggling to overcome your fears? If you are, make sure you've completely submitted yourself to God. The book of James reminds us that a key component of overcome fear is submission. If we're still fighting our battles in our own power, then we haven't completely submitted.

Don't try to fight your fears, surrender them to God. He is ready, willing, and able to destroy your enemies!
