God's Peace

LORD, You established peace for us; all that we have accomplished You have done for us. Isaiah 26:12.

This past Christmas, one of my main takeaways was peace. Maybe your holiday season went smoothly, and everything worked out perfectly... ours didn't! Due to some health issues and my surgery, I wasn't able to prepare for the holidays like I wanted. I felt rushed, so I was feeling stressed instead of peaceful. My preparation time kept getting shorter, and so did my patience. But I wasn't impatient with others; I was getting impatient with myself! Then, a worship song set my heart back in rhythm, and it seemed like God was speaking to me through its lyrics:

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.

God's peace was meant to be, and in my life, it begins with me! Those words are still echoing in my head, and they will highlight my journey through 2026. This year I want to live in peace, and I want to bring peace to my family, friends, and neighbors. I know that pursuing God's peace will offer me strength, and it will bring calmness and healing to my body, soul, and spirit.

If we are following the Prince of Peace (if we are a Christ follower) Jesus will empower us to be His peacemakers on earth. Peace and Love are interconnected. When we have them, they help us produce the other fruits of the Spirit listed in Galatians: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

But to have and display these virtues, we must have God's peace first. Then, His love will overflow from our hearts so we can share it with others. God's peace is what helps us stay calm in the noise, trouble, and difficult situations of life. No matter what happens, you can always rely on God's peace!

"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you. Isaiah 54:10

As Christ Followers, we aren't just told to have God's peace, Jesus called us to be His peacemakers. As the Holy Spirit transforms us to be more like Him, Jesus' righteousness will be on display in us (James 3:18). When we live a peaceful, godly life, it will bring God glory and makes His name known to others. This year (and every year) let's make sure we're being peacemakers for Jesus!

Lord, let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.
