The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand. Psalm 37:23-24 (NLT)
Seasons of life can impact our sense of availability. A young person's heart is full of excitement, and they are often passionate about everything. An abundance of energy can be a blessing, especially when it's used to bring glory to God. As we get older, being available gets harder, and it usually needs to be pre-planned. But the book of Isaiah reminds us we should be an available, a people who would say to God: "Here I am. Send me.” Isaiah 6:8
Getting married can skew our availability, and raising a family takes it to another level. The demands of our careers can affect our availability too. A growing family and job requirements can change our available into unavailable. If we aren’t careful, we can become so tethered to our "to do" list, we aren't even available for the ones we love. If we're too busy, our availability for kingdom things will go by the wayside.
But God is faithful! If your life seems too busy, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you into a season of availability. Pray that God would help you and equip you as it says in Philippians. ...for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. Philippians 2:13
No matter what season you are in, hang in there. God will see you through it! In the meantime, ask the Lord to provide moments for you to be available for His higher purposes. It may be rocking a child back to sleep, or it might be making a new friend in the workplace. Or He might prompt you to linger at church to encourage someone who desperately needs a hug.
Trust God! He is able to use whatever availability you give Him. God is in the multiplication business, so He can take your "little bit" of available and use it to do something big for His glory!
