While We Wait

Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. Psalm 27:14 (NLT)
Why do you think the Lord asks us to wait patiently? Because he knows most of us tend to wait impatiently! He also knows some of us are impulsive and inclined to take matters into our own hands. Have you ever done that? I know I have... I have a great husband, and he tempers my impulsiveness with wisdom. For example, when I get a new idea, I’m usually ready to jump in with both feet and proceed. That is, I’m ready until Jim says; “Have you considered this, or thought about that?” It may not be what I want to hear, but the Lord helps me see it's what I need to hear. After I slow down and consider all the consequences, what my husband says usually makes a lot of sense.
Psalm 27:14 also challenges us to be brave and courageous. I think the Lord is letting us know a time of waiting can be difficult and filled with hardship. But we also know the Lord promises to be with us through every trial. God's Word is full of examples of people who had to wait patiently: Noah and his family on the ark (Genesis 8). After God's promise, Abraham had to wait 25 more years for a son (Genesis 12:1-2). Jacob worked 14 years before he was allowed to marry Rachel (Genesis 29).
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. Ephesians 3:20
But remember, even when it feels like it, we aren't waiting alone. Jesus is right there with us as we wait. Be sure you're listening for God's still, small voice while you wait. God will use these times of waiting to refine us, correct us, teach us, and redirect us. He is always preparing us for bigger and better things, and most of them we can't even imagine. If we're patient, He will use our time of waiting for His glory! Jim and I have a "waiting story" of our own. Our son gave his heart to Jesus at age 12, but in his late teens he turned away from God. 30 years later, he recommitted his life to Christ! Was it worth the wait? My joyful, emphatic answer is an absolute "Yes!"
Think about how many times God has answered your prayers? Then, remember how He answered the next time He asks you to wait... the end result will be worth it!
