Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. I Peter 5:8

Christ followers, this warning is just as relevant today as it was for the first century disciples. Satan is real, and he is a formidable adversary that constantly tries to steal, kill, and destroy us (John 10:10).

Consider these biblical truths:

• Spiritual warfare is real. Not only is it real, it has eternal consequences. Satan’s goal is to devour (destroy) us.

• Spiritual warfare is personal. Satan knows how to tempt us, and he will attack every area of your life.

• Spiritual warfare is ongoing. Until our last breath, Satan will try to get us to doubt, deny, and disobey God.

• Spiritual warfare is subtle. Entertaining one wrong thought opens the door for others. Before we realize it. he's entangled us with a stronghold.

But don't be afraid of what Satan is trying to do, Jesus is stronger!” In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

  1. God's Word says: ...the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)
  2. God has given us His armor to put on and stand firm against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-17).
  3. God has given us His divine authority to overpower demons (Matthew 10:1).
  4. God assures us that when we submit to Him and resist the devil, Satan must flee (James 4:7).
  5. God promises to never leave or forsake us, even when we're being attacked (Hebrews 13:5).

Daily prayer is our lifeline to God. Talking to God allows us to tell Him our fears and receive His guidance. A dedicated prayer time is vital, but so are short intercessions throughout the day. Prayer strengthens our confidence in God and it gives Him an opportunity to work in and through us.

Prayer is our lifeline, but God’s Word is our best weapon against the devil's schemes. Use it boldly and he will flee! The more we know the Word, the more we're able to apply the Word. Memorize a few verses to help you in your weaknesses, then speak them aloud when he comes around to tempt you. When you feel weak, use scripture to actively resist the enemy!

We'll never find victory in spiritual warfare by relying on our own strength. But with God's help, we will be "more than conquerors" (Romans 8:37).
