What Are You Feeding?

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. Romans 10:17 (ESV)
When my brother and I were young, we would spend time at our grandparents’ house in the country. Every morning, we’d get up early to go with our Paw Paw to feed all the farm animals. We’d start at the chicken coop, and scatter feed for the hens. Then we'd head to the pigpen to feed the pigs. Next, we’d hop on the back of the tractor and ride out to the pasture to feed the horses and cows. To us, it seemed like something was always being fed.
As Christians, we must recognize something similar. Every day, we're all feeding something. Our thoughts, time, and focus are constantly fueling either our faith or our feelings. Whichever one we feed the most will be the one that grows stronger.
In today’s fast-paced world, we are bombarded by messages that appeal to our emotions. Social media, the news, and even a well-meaning friend will often urge us to prioritize how we feel over what we believe. If we're not careful, we'll be swept away by our emotions. But as Christ followers, we are called to rise above our feelings and feed our faith!
For we live by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7
How do we feed our faith? We spend time in God’s Word—not because we have to, because we want to! We spend time with God out of love and obedience. We pray, not to check off a box, because we want to communicate with our Heavenly Father. Feeding our faith is a choice, an intentional act of devotion.
But Paul warns us that our feelings are connected to our flesh, and they are powerful. They also rise and fall with our circumstances and emotions. When things aren’t going our way, feelings like fear and doubt rise. But our faith isn't derived from what we see or feel... A strong faith is based on who God is. Faith declares, “I trust you Lord, even when I don’t understand everything you're doing” (Romans 8:5).
Feeding your feelings allows our emotions to control us. Feeding our faith means we are choosing God's truth over what we're feeling. When we nurture our faith through prayer, worship, and God’s Word, we learn to stand firm, even when our emotions are unsettled.
Think about it like this: if we feed our feelings of worry, negativity, and fear, they’ll only grow stronger. But if we'll feed our faith with God’s promises, thankfulness, and trust, we’ll stop reacting emotionally and start responding spiritually.
Faith doesn’t ignore feelings—it just refuses to let them be in charge of our behavior.
