God's Provision

When the Israelites saw it, they said to each other, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. Moses said to them, “It is the bread the LORD has given you to eat. Exodus 16:15

When Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, he led them into the desert. Water is scarce and food is hard to find in a desert, and Bible scholars believe there could have been two million people in the Exodus. It would have been impossible for Moses to provide food and water for that many people, but the scriptures tell us they were fed and none of them died from thirst. Who made that possible? Our Almighty God!

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

Some of us have experienced a time when we wondered where our next meal would come from. We may have even wondered how we would provide for our families. Now, we can look back and understand that it was the Lord who provided. I remember shedding many tears and enduring a lot of stress because I didn’t know how I would make it through my time of need. Now, I know it would have been much easier if I had only trusted in God's provision.

The plagues God sent Egypt gave the Israelites front row seats to God's power and sovereignty over nature. Then, they saw a pillar of clouds in the daytime and fire by night that supernaturally guided them. They had visual reminders of God's provision, but they panicked (and complained) over a perceived lack of food and water. They still didn’t understand that God would meet every one of their needs.

Before we judge the Israelites too harshly, we must ask ourselves if we have ever stressed out over a need of our own, one we perceived as unmeetable. I've already confessed that I've been guilty of this lapse of my faith. Therefore, let's be sure we always trust God's provision, regardless of our circumstances.

If our faith waivers, we must remember that God provided food and water for two million people in a desert! We must also remember that God's Word says He doesn't change. If He provided for the Israelites, He will provide for us too!
