...God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27

Latex gloves are measured by their thickness: Light-duty gloves are flexible, but they tear easily. Medium-duty gloves are thicker and stronger. But when you need a glove that resists punctures and has maximum protection, you choose the ones labeled heavy-duty. But gloves are ineffective, unproductive, and empty—until a hand occupies them. The hand inside is what gives a glove its shape, value, and purpose.

So it is with the Holy Spirit. The moment we invited Jesus into our heart; the Holy Spirit took up permanent residence. When the Holy Spirit moves in, life begins dramatically shifting. Our life is now defined by God's holiness and the constant presence of Jesus. He promises to never leave or abandon us, and He becomes our guide, helper, and friend. God accomplishes all of this through the gift of His Holy Spirit.

The way my hand fits into a latex glove, reminds me of how the Holy Spirit "fits" in me. He gives my life shape, value, and purpose. He permeates my thoughts with God's truth, my heart with God's love, my will with God's strength, and my words with God's power. But to be useful, a glove must yield to the hand that fills it. That is a great picture of how we must yield and surrender to the Holy Spirit living inside us.

When we yield, He becomes our helper, comforter, advocate, and intercessor. He is our constant companion, and our best friend. If we get off track, He will counsel us and guide our steps. His goal is to shape us into God's image, but to obtain these great benefits, we must completely submit ourselves to God.

The names given to the Holy Spirit in the scriptures reveal the aspects of His character. His character will change us, and it will help us change our world. When Jesus went back to Heaven, His mission on earth didn't end. Jesus’ mission to seek and save the lost continues through the power of the Holy Spirit. When He returned to Heaven, He didn't leave us down here alone either. The best way to navigate life's challenges is through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit! He is God's gift to us, and so is His empowerment... we must choose to accept Jesus' gift of the Holy Spirit!

Christ follower, don't neglect the Holy Spirit living within you. God loves you; He defines you, and He is refining you to be more like Jesus!
