Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. Deuteronomy 7:9

Last year I decided to read the entire Bible in a year. I didn’t finish, so I'm continuing my reading plan this year. There have been many familiar sections, but there have also been some unfamiliar ones. But through them all, I have repeatedly seen how faithful God is.

When you look up the definition of faithfulness, you'll find words like loyal, steadfast, and dependable. Unfortunately, the people and things in our lives don't always share those same traits. We've probably all experienced something or someone that wasn't very faithful. The feelings we experienced in those moments can affect how we view faithfulness, depending on how much unfaithfulness occurred. God knows we will experience unfaithfulness, but He also says He will comfort us when it happens.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3–4

God doesn't send trouble our way, but since we live in a fallen world, He does allow trouble to enter our lives. Then, He guides us through those uncomfortable moments so we will be able to comfort someone else in the future. If He's comforting us, it probably means we've been going through something uncomfortable. But remember, that verse from 2 Corinthians says we can’t comfort others spiritually until we've received God's comfort ourselves.

“If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.” 2 Timothy 2:13

We can always turn to God because He is faithful when we're not. He will never be unloyal, fickle or unreliable because it would be the opposite of His character. From Genesis to Revelation, the scriptures declare God's faithfulness! He has never wavered and He never will. Find comfort in that truth the next time you find yourself in one of life's difficult moments.

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. Lamentations 3:22-23 (NLT)

No matter what you're going through, whatever you may face in the future, God is faithful. If you're in a "valley" right now, you can find encouragement, comfort, and peace by remembering how faithful God was in your past. He will be just as faithful to you now as He was then!
