No Fault Found

Pilate then went out again, and said to them, “Behold, I am bringing Him out to you, that you may know that I find no fault in Him.” John 19:4 (NKJV)

When people say Florida is a no-fault state, they’re usually referring to auto insurance. No-fault doesn’t mean no one was responsible for the accident, and it doesn’t mean fault is being ignored. It just means that each driver's insurance company must pay for the initial accident-related costs, no matter whose fault the crash actually was.

But in our opening verse, no-fault takes on a whole new meaning. The word “fault” in this context refers to being guilty. In Jesus case, the Jewish leaders wanted Pilate to approve the charges they were bringing against Him. They told Pilate Jesus had blasphemed God, and in their eyes, it was an accusation worthy of death (Leviticus 24:10-16).

Pilate conducted an investigation, and he even interviewed Jesus personally. His findings? Three times, Pilate ruled, “I find no fault in Him”, which infuriated the religious leaders (John 19:6). Throughout God’s Word, Jesus is presented as the sinless Lamb of God. He was unblemished by sin, so Pilate was correct, there was no fault in Him. Jesus was physically, morally, and spiritually pure, so He was uniquely qualified to pay the price for our sins. That's why He is the only solution for our sin problem, and it is a priceless gift from our Heavenly Father.

For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT)

We will never be sinless, but Romans 8:29 says God is constantly transforming us into the image of His Son. If we have surrendered our hearts to Him, He is standing in the gap and reconciling us to God the Father. Because Jesus paid the ultimate price, you and I are able to stand before a holy, righteous God. Without Jesus, we would be "at fault", and we would be blemished, guilty, and ashamed.

Imagine yourself standing before God, the Creator and designer of the universe. You know your sins, and so does God. Yet, Jesus is in the room, and He stands up and says, "Their debt has been paid." When the final verdict is declared, the judge (God) says, "I find no fault in you, because your debt has been paid by my Son". Amen!
