Let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25 (NKJV)
Loving each other doesn't always happen on its own; that's why we're instructed to stir up love. This is an action, one that requires a choice. It's not always easy, choosing to agape love others can be challenging. Consider this verse from Paul's letter to the Corinthian church; "...now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." (1 Cor. 13:13 NIV). We can have faith and hope in solitude, but to stir up love, we need each other. We may feel love for someone in solitude, but displaying love only happens when two or more are gathered. When we gather, the Holy Spirit is manifested through us as good works are stirred up in us. God designs our good works to be an act of service that will benefit other believers.
Loving and serving others through good works are an offshoot of gathering together. We fellowship together. We break bread together. We worship together. We study God's Word together. Bottom line: God didn't create us to be castaways on a deserted island. Life is unpredictable, and it can be incredibly hard. When believers gather in Christian community, we find the love and encouragement we need. Other people will help us "hang in there" when life gets tough! Other believers help us by reminding us we can count on the living hope inside us.
Satan knows that God uses community to encourage us, so he does what he can to interfere. Satan loves to divide and discourage the gathering of saints, knowing both of them eventually lead to isolation. Unaddressed misunderstandings between believers destroy fellowship opportunities. When Satan distracts us from assembling together, he really trying to isolate and separate us from our Christian community. If we allow him to convince us that being isolated isn't a big deal, we've opened a door for him to mess with our minds. Remember, God is about building us up, and Satan is about tearing us down.... It's that simple.
Christian fellowship brings glory and honor to our Heavenly Father, so get out of your comfort zone and meet with other believers. Gather together and stir up love and good works in each other!
