Prepared for Launch

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. 1 Peter 3:15

A few years ago, Florida residents were able to watch SpaceX Dragon Capsule launch four highly trained, well-prepared astronauts to the International Space Station. But the first launch attempt was scrubbed at the last minute! What a disappointment... Eventually, the launch was successful, and it provided a spectacular view for all the eyewitnesses. But we can easily forget that every successful launch is prefaced by a long season of strategic planning and training.

You and I are created by God and for God; He has a unique purpose and plan for each of us. Yet, before we're ready to be launched into the world, on mission for Him, a season of spiritual preparation is required. As Christ followers, we must be spiritually prepared to take Jesus into a hurting, hope-starved world, a world in desperate need of a Savior.

What exactly are we being prepared for?

  1. For the good works God planned for us (Ephesians 2:10).
  2. How to handle opposition and challenges, especially the ones we don't see coming (1 Peter 4:12-13).
  3. Seasons of life season we haven't been through and have no experience in.

God opens and shuts doors. He brings people in and out of our lives through a variety of situations and circumstances. In life, sometimes we sow, other times we reap. But each season will have its own unique challenges, and we may have more questions than we have answers. Sometimes, a season of preparation feels like nothing's happening, it's as if time is standing still. Yet, we're being set apart for something greater; a season of preparation is where we learn how to completely trust and love God. We cannot share what we don't yet have, nor can we share what we don't yet know.

God's seasons of preparation are a divine gift. But when the time is right, when everything is aligned and ready, He'll successfully launch you without a hitch. You'll be prepared to soar... in Him... and for Him.
