It's Not An Ordinary Gift

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10

The spiritual gifts and grace God gives us are intended for purposes we can't measure. Our gifts aren't for us, God gave them to us to use for His glory. It might even be helpful to not see your gift as a gift at all. Instead, see your gift as a vital part of God's bigger plan. This shift in our thinking will help us see how valuable our gifts are, and how valuable we are to God when we use them. After all, God gave them to us to use, not to keep hidden!

In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Romans 12:6-8 (NLT)

When God gives us a specific spiritual gift, He equips us to manage and grow in the knowledge of how to use it. God's gifts aren't given casually gifts like we give our friends, they are good, perfect, and fit for a King. That means it's vital for us to figure out what our spiritual gifts are! Take some time this summer to figure out what your gift is, then use it for God's glory!
