For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Have you ever thought about prosperity? Did you know Psalm 35:27 says God delights in our prosperity and well-being? Many of us avoid this topic because we know God's Word says the love of money is a sin (1 Timothy 6:10). Prosperity isn't a problem, as long as we don't turn it into idolatry. After all, many of the famous names we read about in scripture prospered financially, people like Job, Abraham, Joseph, and David.

When we see the word "prosper" in the scriptures, it usually means more than just wealth; it means flourishing and succeeding in every area of life—spiritual, physical, relational, and material. But to prosper biblically, we must be obedient and remain faithful to God's commands. It's about wholeness, well-being, and achieving God's purpose for our lives. Material blessings can be part of it, especially when we obey God's commands on giving and generosity.

God's Word says we will prosper if we:

1. Delight in the Lord

  1. Psalm 37:4-5
  2. Psalm 112:1

2. Delight in – and meditate on – Scripture

  1. Psalm 1:1-3
  2. Psalm 119:15-16

3. Expectantly wait on and hope in the Lord – binding and intertwining ourselves with God like the twisting of a rope, humbly and wholly trusting in Him

  1. Psalm 37:9-11
  2. Proverbs 28:25

4. Reverentially fear the Lord – obeying Him and walking righteously in His ways.

  1. Proverbs 11:28
  2. Psalm 128:1-2

5. Plant ourselves in the House of the LORD – establishing communion with God and entering His house to praise Him.

  1. Psalm 92:12-15
  2. Psalm 100:4

6. Tithe our income and generously give

  1. Malachi 3:10
  2. Proverbs 3:9-10
  3. Luke 6:38

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33
