Facing GIANTS

The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8

Everyone is familiar with the story of David and Goliath. David wasn't worried about a BIG giant because he knew he had a BIGGER God on his side. That story should encourage us when we're facing a problem that seems insurmountable or a big, strong adversary.

We might not face a literal giant like Goliath, but we may encounter people who defy God. If they don't believe in God, they may attack our faith and challenge our beliefs. Like Goliath, they might even scorn us for following Jesus. If it happens to you, try to think like David. Don't get nervous, just remember that you have a BIG God on your side!

When David faced opposition, he saw a big God and a little giant, not the other way around. With God on our side, our biggest problems are already defeated! And by the way, giants aren't always people... anxiety, fear, sadness, and depression are BIG problems for many people in these trying times!

Another story everyone loves is the Wizard of Oz. There's a scene in that movie where everyone is afraid of a giant, powerful wizard. His boastful loud shouting was scary until a small dog revealed what that "giant" looked like. Like Israel, everyone's fear enabled someone to manipulate them. The wizard of Oz isn't a bible story, but believe it or not, many old movies were inspired by scripture.

When Dorothy pushed back against the giant's bullying, it revealed the loud scary voice came from a little man behind a BIG curtain. When Dorothy stood up for what was right, her giant problem became ordinary. But It's important for us to realize who is really behind these attacks. Why? Because when someone opposes us, we tend to take it personally. It may be manifested as a person, but the real attack is spiritual! Our real enemy is Satan, and he knows how to use people and problems as weapons. God's Word says the only way to fight a spiritual battle is with spiritual weapons!

Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. Ephesians 6:10-11 (NLT)

If your problems seem overwhelming, remind yourself who God says you are, His precious child in Christ. Trust in your Heavenly Father protection! When you're facing a BIG problem, think like David and remember the battle is the Lord's!
