...you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (NLT)
The last time a hurricane was headed our way, state agencies started warning everyone about losing power. When the governor of Florida started echoing that warning, my family and I became more diligent about charging our cell phones and electronic devices. Everyone knows hurricanes are destructive, but an extended loss of power can have devastating consequences too.
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. I Peter 5:8
They aren't hurricanes, but the storms and temptations Satan sends our way can have devastating aftereffects. The events of the past few weeks have been a sobering reminder of this reality. But when Satan attacks, we don't need to fear a loss of power—Jesus promised us His Holy Spirit would live in us and empower us forever! (John 14:16-17).
But we must all realize that without God, we're powerless. But the moment the Holy Spirit starts living in us, there is no limit to what God will do for us, and what we can do for Him. But if we're not in a close relationship with God, the Holy Spirit may speak to us without us recognizing it. If we don't know God personally, He can't be our source of wisdom.
Ways to cultivate your relationship with the Holy Spirit:
- Spend time each day reading God’s Word and meditating on what you read.
- Listen for the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit as He gives you insight and direction.
- Learn to recognize the nudges He gives you when you are interacting with other people.
- Write down some of the times the Holy Spirit prompted you and how you reacted when He did.
Christ follower, God has given you everything you need to live victoriously! The storms of life may be coming, but don't fear, God has given you an endless, unfailing power supply.
