Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
While listening to a Christian TV show called Divine Life Transformation, I was intrigued by a teaching on renewing your mind. The speaker challenged everyone to go deeper into God’s Word which will help us apply biblical principles to every aspect of our daily lives.
A summary of the key points:
- Renewing your mind means changing your thought process to make sure it always lines up with God’s Word.
- Trust God, and surrender to Him. He wants to help us change, but we must be willing to let Him. (Philippians 1:6)
- Be open to God's voice and God's prompting. Is the Holy Spirit prompting you to examine yourself and change anything?
- Renewing your mind means removing any ungodly thoughts or habits. Things like anger, lust, envy, worry, and addictions.
- Are they affecting your health, relationships with others, or your relationship relationship with God? (Psalms 119:11)
- Are your thoughts and/or behaviors harming you or others? If they aren't, are they stagnating your walk with Christ?
- Think new thoughts, not old ones. Don’t listen to the enemy when he reminds you of your old habits. (Philippians 4:8)
- Start applying scripture to every area of your life. Then thank God for helping you control your thoughts and actions.
The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. Psalm 119:130
Deliberately consider each of these steps and pray about acting on them. As you start making small changes, you’ll see the transformation and so will others! Small changes lead to bigger changes, and all of those changes will help you grow closer to Christ!
