The Gift of Knowledge

Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you do not know. Jeremiah 33:3 (ESV)

Do you have a thirst for knowledge? I do, but even when I use my computer, there are many things in the world that are unknowable. But if we're following Jesus, we know someone who knows everything! He doesn't need to use Google, and He never is stumped or wrong.

Has the Holy Spirit spoken to you? Not as an audible voice, perhaps He nudged you to take another route home instead of your usual way. Or maybe you've had "a check in your spirit" that warned you about someone's hidden agenda. Or maybe God revealed someone you thought was a friend, wasn't. In both cases, you had no reason to suspect a problem, but somehow your spirit knew. When that happens, we are being given information about hidden things by the Holy Spirit.

As I reflect on my life, there were times I knew things I had no way of actually knowing. But I also knew at the very core of my being that my thoughts about a person or a situation were correct. In those moments, I felt certain about an otherwise unknowable thing. I wasn't being prideful, because I knew it wasn't me... I understood that God, through the power of the Holy Spirit was imparting the gift of knowledge to me.

When we first got married, my husband usually dismissed what the Lord was warning me about. He thought if I had no way of knowing it, it was probably all in my mind. Over the years, when the things I told him about were later proved to be accurate, he learned to view it a different way. The Lord knew, and He was giving His knowledge about those things to me.

Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear. Isaiah 65:24

We are God's children, and He wants to be in a close, personal relationship with us. Our Heavenly Father wants us to tell Him about our day, and He wants us to cry out to Him for help. But He also wants to tell us amazing and unknowable things! Do you want to hear from God? Get started by spending time talking to Him. Make spending time with Jesus a priority! Don't let the cares of the world distract you, take time to read God's Word and listening for Him to speak.

Put the busyness of life on hold and listen for God's still, quiet voice. You will be amazed by what the Lord reveals!
