What God Intended

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame. Genesis 2:24-25

From the beginning, God had a plan for marriage. A marriage between one man and one woman, united by God into one flesh. Not just sexually, but united together in all things. United to help each other grow closer to God, united to grow closer to each other, and united to teach their children about God. It is a beautiful cycle that God created, but when sin entered the world, that beautiful cycle was tainted.

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked so they sewed fig leave together and made coverings for themselves. Genesis 3:7

The moment Adam and Eve disobeyed God's command; our world's future was forever changed. Notice, Satan’s first attack on the world was not on its animals or the land, he attacked the marriage union that God designed. Think about that, and let it sink in for a moment. Satan attacked the area he believed would have the longest-lasting impact... he attacked Adam and Eve's marriage with the purpose of killing, stealing, and destroying it.

I don’t know what your background is, your current situation or even your future, but God does! The Lord can take the brokenness Satan creates and turn it upside down. God loves to use our mistakes, our shame, and our brokenness for His good purpose and glory. God's forgiveness and grace restores the beautiful cycle He intended from the beginning. In Genesis, the Lord forgave, restored, and covered the shame of our world's first couple.

The Lord made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. Genesis 3:21

Whatever situation you go through, know that God sees you. He doesn't just see us; He wants to restore us and heal us! If you need help, CCM has an amazing group of volunteer Biblical counselors and staff pastors who are there for you. If you are going through a time of difficulty in your marriage, trust me, I know what that's like. My husband and I walked down some tough roads in our marriage, but God guided us back to the right path, His path!

On the other hand, maybe you're reading this, and your marriage doesn't have any significant issues. Praise God! Then continue drawing closer to God as you draw closer to each other. Next, pray for the marriages of others, and ask God to use you to help encourage them.
