God's Gentle Whisper

“The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. 1 Kings 19:11-13

Sometimes, the trials we experience bring fear and discouragement. I appreciate the encouragement of friends and family in my trials, but when God whispers encouragement, it's priceless! I'm encouraged that our Almighty God knows my name. One of the hardest things I've personally experienced was my cancer diagnosis. God's gentle whispers were reminders of the unchanging promises in His Word. Those personal reminders from God helped me get through the shock of the diagnosis and the stress from the treatments. God's Word and God's presence were the pillar of my faith, the solid rock I learned to stand on when my fears overwhelmed my faith.

Here are some gentle reminders from God's Word, the ones that calmed my emotions and steadied my faith:

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)

“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1 (NLT)

“So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 (NLT)

“Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.” Psalms 23:4 (NLT)

Christ follower, whatever you are going through, listen carefully for God's gentle whispers. He is reminding you to lean on His promises and His presence. Like Elijah, He knows you by name!
