Feed My Sheep

A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep." John 21:17 (NLT)
Most Christians are aware of the Great Commission which is our command to share the Gospel. But when we make new disciples, we can't forget to feed them. When Jesus told Peter, "feed my sheep" He meant take care of each other and take care of my church. Do you love Jesus? Are you following Jesus? Have you asked Him to be your Lord and Savior? If you have, then what He asked of Peter He is asking of you!
Perhaps you're thinking, “I'm not a pastor, so that's not my job.” Notice, Jesus prefaced his words to Peter by asking him “do you love me?” Peter's obligation to feed the sheep was predicated on his love for Jesus. If you are a believer, God has given you spiritual gifts and talents. But He doesn't want us to hoard them, He wants us to use them! When we work in unison to expand God's kingdom we are feeding each other. But feeding God's sheep doesn't only happen from the pulpit, it also happens in small groups and 1:1 discipleship.
If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Romans 12:7-8 (NLT)
This list doesn't cover every amazing gift and talent the Lord gives us. If you are musically gifted, you can "feed God’s sheep" by joining the worship team. If you have the gift of hospitality, pray about allowing a leader to use your home for a bible study. These are just two examples, the list of possibilities is almost endless. But don't worry about depleting your gift by sharing it. To the contrary… in most cases, the more we share our gifts and talents, the more our gift grows!
The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:12 (NLT)
Don't just use words, if you love Christ, demonstrate it by using your spiritual gifts to feed His sheep!
