“Only be careful and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.” Deuteronomy 4:9
Grandparent’s Day was Sept 7, and beautiful celebrations that honored grandparents happened all around the world.
Grandparents Day is a great reminder that God’s plans move through generations, creating multiple layers of believers. He ordains sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, and grandfathers and grandmothers to reproduce the knowledge of Him and eternity. God values us, but He also values future generations. Our greatest legacy is passing on the gospel to the next generation!
Grandparenting has been a God-given role since Genesis. God called Abraham to teach his children spiritual things and to always obey the Lord. Boaz and Ruth were David’s great-grandparents, and they are linked to lineage of Jesus. Timothy’s grandmother passed on her strong faith to her daughter and to Timothy. Psalm 78 is a great reminder about passing on our faith to the next generation.
We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders. Psalm 78:4 (NLT)
Parents and grandparents are honoring God when they "train up a child in the way they should go" (Proverbs 22:6). But Grandparents must be sure they are modeling God's joy, humility, unconditional love, and integrity. Children may listen to our words, but be assured, they are observing our actions more intently. Let's be sure our children and grandchildren see true faith and godly behavior in us!
I pray that God will give parents and grandparents an enduring, non-wavering faith that won't fail as they age. I also pray the younger generation will listen to the wise counsel of older believers and become disciples!
