Meet Me in this Moment, Lord

My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.” Psalm 27:8 (NLT)

When is the last time your heart heard and responded to the Lord’s invitation to sit with him? No distractions. No excuses. Just an intentional, intimate moment with God.

God's Word says we must pursue holiness because it won’t pursue us. Paul reminded the Philippian church that he had not arrived and was actively pressing toward heaven. He learned that every circumstance includes redemptive power for change, and every experience provides a lesson for growth. If you reflect on your current season, ask the Lord to open your eyes to see His hand at work. There is often a correlation between the physical and the spiritual. Perhaps you’re remodeling a house, and God wants you to see an area in your life that needs restructuring. Or maybe you’ve lost a job, and God wants you to lean on Him to supply all your need.

There’s wisdom in making a habit of evaluating our motives. We can focus so much on pleasing people, especially ourselves, that we overlook how we may be dis-pleasing to God. We can’t strive with others and expect blessing from God. We can’t withhold forgiveness and find intimacy with God. Ask the Lord to reveal any offensive, or defensive, behaviors. He will show you because He desires you to have clean hands and a pure heart. Effective prayer is built on obedience.

The Scriptures aren't just for reading. They are designed to search, correct, and cleanse us. Be encouraged that God is meeting you in these moments:

  1. Struggling to forgive someone, the cross of Christ empowers you.
  2. Grappling about a poor choice, the mercy of Christ restores you.
  3. Carrying a burden, the presence of Christ refreshes you.
  4. Battling warfare, the worship of Christ will defend you.
  5. Worrying about tomorrow, the peace of Christ will settle you.

A godly life is shaped by a contented heart. We are called to grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ. But there is no growth without grittiness; no change without challenge; no holiness without humility.

Paul didn’t consider himself to have it all together. He just moved forward with awareness of the enemy and the anticipation of eternity. He knew that sitting at the feet of Jesus allowed him to stand firm in the face of adversity. All of these things are part of our sanctification process. Easy? No. Possible? Yes.

The Lord wants to meet you in every moment. Train your heart to seek Him diligently and He will bless you greatly.
