Trusting God In the Pit

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

Joseph had a plan for his future. It seemed secure because God gave it to him in a dream multiple times. God may not have spoken to you in a dream, but was there a time when your plans seemed crystal clear? Did your path seem so certain you weren't worried about moving forward?

I've been there... I’ve been so certain about my future that when I spoke about it to others, it may have sounded prideful. Then, before we know it, the enemy comes out of nowhere and knocks us down. Next thing you know, you're face first on the floor wondering, “How I did I get here, Lord?" That's when we realize those were our plans, not God's.

...when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe, the robe of many colors that he wore. And they took him and threw him into a pit. Genesis 37:23-24 (NLT)

Joseph probably wondered; "Lord, you gave me clear instructions, so why am I down here in this pit? My own brothers have betrayed me, and none of this was in those plans you showed me!" Like Joseph, if we end up in a pit, we don’t always know what to do. We aren't exactly sure how we got there, and we don't know what the enemy's next move will be.

But we do have choices to make while we're waiting. We can give up and say, "I’m doing it my way, because God's plan isn't working." Or we can throw a tantrum, blame everyone else, and wallow in our misery. But the proper response is to say; "Lord, I don’t understand why I’m down here, but I trust you. I know your ways are greater than mine, and I believe you will give me hope and a future.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9

Does it seem like you're in pit right now? Are the plans you've made not working out? Are you struggling to hear clear directions from the Lord? If you're down in one of life's pits, trust God. Whatever you're facing, God has a rescue plan in place.

Remember, The Lord knows what's best for us, but it might include a few "pit-stops" along the way!
