Let Your Light Shine

..."let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16

It is wonderful and life-giving to be filled with God’s light! But the end goal is not about us and our personal benefit. Jesus told us to let our light shine so that others will see it! In our verse above, Jesus said when the world sees God's light shining in us, it brings God glory!

My last two devotionals discussed God’s Light, including how:

  1. God’s Light = Life
  2. God fills His children with light.
  3. God's Word is the light for our path.
  4. God’s light is central to our identity as believers.

Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. Isaiah 60:1-3

In 2019, everything changed when COVID arrived. Satan went to work spreading fear, isolation, and deception, and many vulnerable people passed away from COVID related illnesses. We were told to stay home and avoid public places, and we were even prohibited from getting together with our family members! If we did go out, signs were everywhere telling us to stay 6 feet apart. But in the post-COVID era, many people continued their newfound lifestyles of social isolation – working from home and attending church and school online. To this day, many people are still relying on social media to be their primary source of “relationships” with others.

For some people, isolation is necessary due to medical reasons. But for the rest of us, God's Word instructs us to:

  1. Go into the world and tell people about Jesus (Mark 16:15).
  2. Intentionally “assemble together” with other believers (Hebrews 10:25).

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6

Consider these two questions:

  1. How might you connect with other believers (in-person) for Christian fellowship?
  2. How might God nudge you out of your comfort zone so His light will shine from you towards others?
